Scotts 35 years of experience began as a carpenter where he became passionate about construction, and quickly learned the basics of building quality homes. It didn’t take long before Scott formed his own custom remodel company called Scott Engler Construction in 1977. For 10 years Scott built beautiful custom homes and remodels around the Puget Sound.
Scott decided to extend his knowledge into commercial new construction, and went to work for WG Clark Construction. As construction Superintendent, Scott built large commercial structures includinga 13 unit high-end condominium over concrete garage in Kirkland, a 36 unit condomium over 2 stories of underground parking, and 91 unit mixed-use building over 2 levels of underground parking. These were highly technical steel, concrete and wood structures.
After 13 years of gaining in-valuable commercial experience, Scott decided to return to his passion of residential construction, and started Heartwood Builders in 2001.
Scotts strengths in construction management are his depth of knowledge in the construction process,as well as his natural ability to lead and motivate his staff and contractors in the field. Scott is also skilled at estimating and scheduling and regularly meets budgets and time-lines. Clients find him trustworthy, and comfortable to work with. Scott’s clients tend to become friends.
Scott oversees all aspects of the business, but has competent foremen, and administrative assistants who help manage the processes in the field and in the office.
One of the keys to our success is our long-standing relationship with our employees. Being able to self-perform much of our work enables us to efficiently control quality, schedule, and costs.
Most of our employees have been with us for many years. We value their commitment and hard work, and hope to maintain those relationships for many years to come.
Heartwood understands that the future of building and development is highly dependent on the use of sustainable materials and practices.
Technology has come a long way since our start, and now there is an environmentally sensitive option for almost every application. Well designed and constructed houses can be built with very little consumption of raw materials, can be much healthier places to live and raise a family than houses of the past, and can draw very little from our public power and water systems.
Heartwood has been operating with environmental consideration from our beginning, and we are committed to taking sustainable building to a new level.
